Sloughi History:

The Sloughi (SLOO-ghee) is a classically constructed sighthound of ancient lineage, originally bred to work on such game as the hare, fox, jackal, gazelle, and wild pigs on the punishing terrain of its homeland. This is a lean, no-frills hound standing between 24 to 29 inches at the shoulder.

 

Sloughi Size:

Males stand 26 to 29 inches at the shoulder; females, 24 to 27 inches. Males generally weigh 50 to 63 pounds, while females are around 40 to 50 pounds.

 

Sloughi Personality:

Training & temperament because of its long history as a coursing and guard breed of nomads, the Sloughi is skeptical about strangers and is aloof. Sloughi puppies require socialization, such as puppy classes and exposure to many new people and situations in order to become properly adjusted adults.

Sloughi Health:

Considered a generally healthy dog breed, the Sloughi lives an average life span of 12 to 15 years. Health concerns with this breed include progressive retinal atrophy and sensitivity to vaccines, anesthesia and other medicines.

 

Sloughi Care:

Sloughis aren't hypoallergenic dogs, but they do only have medium shedding and short hair. In terms of grooming, your Sloughi will require simple routine baths, nail trimming, and teeth brushing like other dog breeds.

Recommended daily amount: 1.5 to 2 cups of a high-quality dog food daily, divided into two meals.

The Sloughi's coat is short, dense, and fine. Hair ranges in color from light sand through red sand (fawn), with or without a black mask; with or without a black mantle; with or without black brindling; and with or without a black overlay.

 

Sloughi with Children And Other Pets:

The Sloughi does well with kids of all ages, and he's sturdy enough to withstand their handling. The Sloughi less aggressive toward other dogs than many other terriers. He gets along with other pets, especially if he's raised with them.
